No matter how much room you have in your house there never seems to be enough space to put things. And things and stuff just keeping coming into your home in droves and you have no where to put them. Does that sound familiar? I know that I always have the problem of figuring out where to put all those things and that stuff that comes into the house so I'm constantly on the look out for storage ideas.

The first piece of great advice I got on storage was for every new item you bring in get rid of something old. We store a lot of things that we don't use without realizing how much the space really costs us in $'s! If you are paying for a storage unit to store unused items you know how painful this can be. So remember you pay for every square inch of your house and you don't want to use it storing something that you're never going to use again.

Past this bit of advice I find that one of the best solutions is to utilize your closet spaces as best as possible. That way all those little things that congregate into masses of clutter on table tops and counters have somewhere to be that others donít have to see it. Closet organizers make wonderful tools for hiding clutter. You can buy closet organizers that can be put together easily in your own home. When you can do it yourself, why hire someone else to do it. Soon, youíll find that your closet is not just a place to hang your clothes or your outerwear but a place where items that are not used daily can find a home. Wicker baskets are great storage ideas for the top shelf of your closet. With out a storage system, anything that is put on the top shelf can become a safety hazard. Piled up magazines topple over. Loose items fall off and hit you on the head when youíre trying to pull out that one item you need. Sooner or later it all ends up on the floor of the closet unless you utilize good storage ideas.

The floor of the closet is another under utilized space that good storage ideas can make an effective place to store items. Boots often end up in a mixed up pile without good storage but a simple boot/shoe organizer can change that.

Remember to organize your items by how much you use them. Less used items can go on high shelves that you have to access with a ladder or in your attic. Another suggestion is to store your summer clothes in plastic boxes on your high shelves waiting for the winter months to pass and giving you more closet storage in the mean time. In the summer you can switch out your sweaters for shorts!

You can also find bins, baskets, and other space savers that can be stored on a shelving unit for easy access. Even children will be able to find their winter mitts and hats on their own with a system like this!
